A commissioner and a notary have different powers. A notary has the powers of a commissioner and can also verify signatures and certify true copies within the scope of the appointment.

Important: Ontario permits qualifying oaths and declarations to be commissioned remotely, but current Ontario guidance says notarization cannot be performed remotely.

Can notarization be done remotely in Ontario?
Current Ontario guidance distinguishes remote commissioning from notarization: qualifying commissioning can occur remotely, but notarization cannot.
Appointments & Fees
Clear pricing for common document services.
$59 + HST first notarization or commissioning. $29 + HST each additional notarization at the same appointment. Mobile appointments from $149 + HST, plus travel where applicable.
Certified true copy: $59 + HST; additional certified copies at the same appointment: $29 + HST. Specialized documents start from $89 + HST. Drafting and more involved work is quoted separately.
